The shape of these lamps is reminiscent of old candle holders with handles, commonly called “lie” in Italian, a simplified name of the African city Bidgiaya which supplied most of the wax used to make candles! This anecdote today also accompanies the "modern" Bugia: table or wall lamp with single or double light, as simple as it is ingenious.
